How will he earn my support? By governing from the middle and not allowing ultra-wingers like Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Rep. Rahm Emanuel, and the like dictate to him how the country should be run. I'd like to see Colin Powell be offered an appointment in his cabinet. I'd like to see him curtail government spending, not by simply spending less on current programs but by cutting programs that are ineffective and no longer serve their purpose. Yes, I would love to see him as the restored beacon of common-sense and hope, President Mitchell. (For those of you who don't know that obscure reference, Mitchell was the fictional president in the movie "Dave").
He will lose my willingness to support him if he goes down the road of Schumer, Pelosi, and Reed by limiting free speech with the Fairness Doctrine, redefining the "mainstream" as someone who is tolerant of everything and someone who stands for nothing, and entering into massive entitlement programs with government-sponsored universal health care.
Now, it's your turn to sound off. What will make you support Pres.-Elect Obama? What will make you surrender your support?

I watched Obama's acceptance speech again this morning and it is so moving it brings tears to my eyes! I believe that our country really needs someone like him to inspire and move people to change.
I watched Colin Powell's interview on supporting Obama several months ago and I really appreciate the points he brought out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2U63fXBlFo
I also hope Colin will serve in his cabinet.
It is inspiring to see so many in the country that are hopeful of what Obama can do for this country. A lot rides on his shoulders and like he said, "It is not just about my ability to bring change but also about yours."
What can each of us do? How can we support the change that we want to see? It is about getting involved, helping one another, even making sacrifices. Our economic crisis is something that we can all be involved in by personally committing to get out of debt and living within our means- starting today.
I agree with you Matt, I hope he will listen. But I don't see him as someone who is tolerant of everything and stands for nothing. If you have listened to any of his speeches there are many things that he stands for and I believe he is passionate about bringing the parties together and working together. If he stood for nothing I don't believe you'd see the likes of Colin Powell or Warren Buffet supporting him. I think you can tell a great deal about someone by the people they associate with and the company they keep. I encourage you to watch the Colin Powell interview on youtube- it points out some strengths in Obama's character that many have not been willing to see because they've been so swept away into the lies that have been perpetuated about him. I am thrilled to see him become our new president in January! A new day has truly come!
Obama is in entering a very scary position right now. Think about it. Who would want to take over this country at this point? You would think we would be begging and paying for someone to be the President at such a crappy time. Why would anybody want to be President right now? I think it is either for Power, glory or just crazy!!
But it also could be that someone truly believes they can change America for the better. I love how Obama wants to Unite America again. That is what won the election for him.
Maybe socialism will work for awhile. Maybe it will be a good lesson to learn for our kids and grandkids. I can't help but fear the near future. I feel like their is some corruption in our Government and that it will increase rapidly in the coming years.
I do feel that the redistribution of wealth has hurt our country and will continue to hurt our country.
Obama is a good speaker. I hope other countries begin to respect the United States. I hope we can end any war that isn't necessary.
I will support Obama on anything I feel is right for our country. But I will stand up and fight when I see corruption or anything that will hurt this country right now or in the long run. That is the way I think it should be.
I think Obama has the potential to be a really great president. He has entered into office in a critical time. The economy is the worst it has been in almost a century, we are waged in two wars, companies are going out of business, people are losing their houses and their jobs and I think the majority of U.S. citizens are displeased with the way the government has been handling things and our international image has been damaged. Obama has a lot of pressure, the U.S. citizens and the whole world have high expectations. He has got to meet those expectations. I think Obama is a very intelligent person very capable of bringing energy to the White House, to the country. I think another good thing about Obama that is a big difference from our current president, he is not embarrased or afraid to ask for advice or admit that he is wrong. He is willing to talk with the best people and be completely informed before making a decision. His ideas are good and his intentions are good, now we will see if he can inact them and repair a lot of damaged bridges, repair a hurting economy. We will see if he can intelligently end the war in Iraq and win the war against Al-Queda.
He has a lot of backing, he won a good chunk of the electoral vote, he turned a lot of the country a bit bluer, even Utah.
I have faith that he will be a good leader and the President that America needs right now.
entering the Presidency at a time like this would be insane for anyone! our country is in such an economic depression that it will take some major changes to bring us out of our debt and out of this slump, Obama says that he will be the man to make these needed changes for our country. I voted for Obama because i am willing to give him a chance. what do we as Americans have to lose? our country cannot afford to sink any lower, hopefully we can only improve from here, i hope that Obama turns out to be the president that we need him to be, i hope he is the change that we wish to see in the world
I do think that Obama has the potential to be a great President. However I think it is going to be quite awhile before we can judge him. I think the first year or two are going to be very difficult for him. Also, i think the expectations that are being put on him are going to make people judge him badly if he is not a great President.
I also think that the President does not make as much of a monumental change that people think. This is why are country has chacks and balances. More than anything I think what will make him great in the long run is his ability to inspire and to motivate people to get involved and make a difference in their own lives. I know there are some that will expect the new President to make those changes for them, but it has to be something that people will do for themselves.
